Haga and Skansen Kronan: a café street with a hilltop finish

Walk Haga Nygata for its mixed brick-and-wood houses, then decide whether to climb to Skansen Kronan. A shared cinnamon bun is a useful pause in the middle of the route, not a reward squeezed in after every sight.

01

Use Haga Nygata as your spine

Start on Haga Nygata and look for the characteristic houses with a brick ground floor and wooden upper storeys. The pedestrian street connects the neighbourhood’s independent shops and cafés. Arriving via Hagakyrkan or Järntorget keeps the route straightforward; use Västtrafik’s current planner for the tram journey.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

For a booked alternative, compare the Haga Old Town walking tour. Check the currently bookable duration and meeting point. Café Husaren purchases and Skansen Kronan interior access are not guaranteed by a Haga walk.

02

Choose a pastry worth sharing

We recommend Café Husaren for the large Hagabullen cinnamon bun. Sharing one can leave room for lunch later, and the café’s historic corner is part of the street’s appeal. Its menu also has sandwiches and other home-baked sweets if a very large bun is not your thing.

03

Make the climb optional

From Haga, head towards Skansen Kronan for the outdoor view over the roofs. The ascent adds steps and effort, so it should be a choice rather than a compulsory part of a relaxed shopping walk. You are coming for the exterior and viewpoint; do not assume an indoor museum ticket is available.

04

Take the shorter version in wet weather

If the climb is uncomfortable, stay in Haga and browse the smaller shops instead. The tourism guide highlights soap makers, independent toys and design shops, giving the street a reason to linger beyond its café photograph. Keep purchases small enough to carry comfortably and leave the hill for better conditions.

05

Finish with room for lunch

Return towards Järntorget or continue towards the canal if you still want an outdoor stretch. Feskekörka is a different seafood stop worth its own meal time, not another attraction to hurry through with a full pastry plate behind you. Carry a waterproof shell; west-coast showers can change the feel of the walk quickly.
