Day one (Saturday): old squares and a working church
Begin at Stortorget, looking at the Town Hall frontage, then wander into Lilla Torg for the smaller square’s historic buildings and café tables. Keep this first stretch unhurried: the change of scale between the squares tells you more than a quick photograph at each.
Make S:t Petri an optional quiet visit before lunch. In Krämarekapellet, look for the medieval painted figures if the chapel is accessible. Services take priority, and the church’s current visitor information decides when sightseeing fits. You can still enjoy the old-centre streets when an interior visit is unavailable.
Day one (Saturday): a named lunch stop
Head towards Malmö Saluhall at Gibraltargatan 6. We recommend Söderholmens Fisk for a straightforward fish-and-chips lunch: the hall’s current trader information lists the dish, alongside its fish counter and other cooked choices. Check the day’s menu if you want another fish preparation.
The hall lets different appetites share one stop: St Jakobs has sandwiches and cardamom buns, while other traders have their own menus and service times. Choose lunch before setting off for the museums rather than assuming museum admission includes food.
Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.
Day one (Saturday): one museum decision, then the parks
Walk towards Malmöhus and choose the museum content that interests you most. Check which buildings the current admission covers; a Wisdome show is a separate booking decision, not something to infer from a general museum ticket. Leave time afterwards for the park paths and Castle Mill exterior.
At our 9 October 2026 review, the Art Museum’s collection and third-floor galleries at Malmöhus were closed during lift replacement. Its activity had moved to Kungsparken. Packtricia will check for reopening, but always check the municipality’s current visitor notice before travelling. Use the available museum sections and park loop instead of making those closed galleries a required stop.
Day two (Sunday): Västra Hamnen at walking pace
Give the waterfront a separate outing, starting around Västra Hamnen and using Turning Torso as a skyline marker. Come for the public spaces and changing views between buildings; do not expect a normal sightseeing visit inside the residential tower.
In pleasant weather, continue towards Ribersborg for a coastal stroll and a bench break. Swimming and the bathhouse are optional visits with their own conditions, rather than the default ending. Wind can make this part of Malmö feel cooler than the old squares, so keep a layer and waterproof protection in the bag.
Choose the shorter Sunday
If the wind or rain is tiring, shorten the waterfront route and return towards the centre by the current Skånetrafiken service. A Saluhall lunch gives you a named indoor finish without relying on beach weather. With only one day, combine the squares with either the museum-and-parks loop or the waterfront; both together leave little time to enjoy either.
