Malmöhus and the parks: choose the museum, then take the mill walk

Pair Malmö’s museum area with a short park walk around Slottsmöllan. Choose the building and exhibitions you want before buying admission, and check which art galleries remain affected by works.

01

Choose the castle-side visit

Start at Malmöhus. The castle-side museum combines historic rooms, exhibitions and the aquarium. Pick two priorities, such as the castle’s history and aquatic life, rather than trying to cover the whole museum complex before lunch. The modern Technology and Maritime House is a separate building.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

02

Read the ticket’s scope

A single-building ticket can cover the castle side or the Technology and Maritime House; compare it with the combined option if you want both. A Wisdome film is another decision and must be booked for a specific screening. An exterior guided walk past the castle does not automatically include museum interiors.

03

Keep the affected art galleries on the list

Malmö Art Museum’s collection and third-floor exhibition galleries were closed for lift replacement when reviewed on 8 October 2026. They remain worthwhile for a future visit. The museum directs visitors to its activity in Kungsparken during the works. Packtricia will check for reopening; always check the museum before travelling. No confirmed reopening date is promised here.

04

Follow the mill and garden loop

After the museum, walk towards Slottsmöllan and the garden paths around Slottsträdgården. Look at the windmill’s timber body and sails, then continue along the park water rather than adding another distant district. Treat the mill as an exterior stop unless a current event explicitly offers interior access.

05

End with a specific lunch option

If you are continuing into the centre, Söderholmens Fisk is an established fish-and-chips option in Malmö Saluhall. Check its current service and menu before making the detour. For a shorter day, finish after the mill walk and use the museum’s available facilities instead. A waterproof layer helps on the exposed paths beside the moat.

Malmö’s old centre and Saluhall: squares first, lunch second

Pair Malmö’s historic squares with a lunch at Saluhall rather than trying to fit the whole city into one morning. This route works well around a train arrival and leaves the exposed coast for another outing.

S:t Petri church in Malmö

Malmö’s S:t Petri: medieval paintings worth slowing down for

Step inside S:t Petri for a focused art and architecture visit. The painted Krämarkapellet and the church’s own audio trail make this more than a quick look at the tower.

Turning Torso beyond Malmö’s rocky shoreline

Västra Hamnen and Ribersborg: Malmö’s coast at walking pace

Choose Malmö’s coast for open views and a slower outdoor outing. Turning Torso is the landmark to navigate by, while the shoreline paths and Ribersborg give you places to stop without requiring a tower visit.

A first weekend in Malmö: old squares, museums and a coastal Sunday

Start Saturday with Malmö’s old squares and a focused museum visit, then use Sunday for Västra Hamnen and the coast. There is time for fish-and-chips at Saluhall and a slower look at the city’s contrasting neighbourhoods.

A Gamla Stan lane leading towards Riddarholmen Church

Gamla Stan on foot: Stortorget, quiet lanes and Riddarholmen

Use Gamla Stan’s squares as anchors instead of wandering without a plan. This walk pairs Stortorget and a proper fika stop with quieter lanes and the waterfront around Riddarholmen, leaving paid museum visits optional.
