Karlovy Vary’s Hot Spring excursion: what to confirm before booking

Distinguish public colonnade sightseeing from the separate guided route below the Hot Spring. Confirm the operator’s current session, language and access before making it part of your day.

01

Understand the difference between the two visits

The Hot Spring area can be part of a public town walk, while the underground excursion is a separately organised guided visit. Decide whether you want the infrastructure story below ground or simply the colonnades and river architecture above. A walking-tour description mentioning the springs does not establish underground admission. Read the exact selected option and ask who operates the excursion before paying. This guide does not promise a timetable inferred from an old tourism brochure.

The operator describes a nineteenth-century tunnel, mineral formations and petrification chambers used to make stone-coated souvenirs, followed by a footbridge in the Teplá riverbed. These are features of the guided excursion, rather than rooms you can enter independently from the promenade.

02

Use the actual operator for availability

SPLZaK publishes a May–October excursion season. Its October calendar normally runs Thursday–Sunday; Wednesday 14 October 2026, the review date, is outside those normal opening days. The ticket desk is on the first floor of the Hot Spring Colonnade. Confirm an actual session and language before arriving: the operator requires at least four paying visitors and limits groups to twenty including children. The above-ground colonnades are the alternative when no session is available. Packtricia will recheck the recorded calendar; readers should check before travel.

03

Ask the practical access questions before reserving

An underground route can have conditions unlike an open promenade. Ask about steps, floor surfaces, space, temperature and suitability for your particular needs; do not assume it is step-free or appropriate for every child or visitor. Check bag and photography rules too. If the route cannot accommodate your group, choose the available above-ground colonnades instead. That alternative still offers a coherent architectural outing and does not depend on entering a confined or unsuitable space.

04

Make the Market Colonnade a clear approach anchor

Use the Market Colonnade on Tržiště as the named stop before moving towards the Hot Spring area. Its white carved wood and Charles IV legend relief give you something specific to notice while keeping the timing flexible. The photograph in this guide shows that Market Colonnade approach, not a photograph of the underground chambers. Continue only when you know the meeting point for your confirmed excursion; a nearby public building is not necessarily the ticket desk or tour entrance.

05

Allow a meal break rather than another immediate booking

After the visit, continue along the southern promenade towards Pupp for a sit-down pause. Café Pupp’s linked menu includes eggs Benedict and a chicken-and-bacon club sandwich, useful possibilities to check for a meal rather than relying only on confectionery. If you choose its signature cake, the operator states that it contains Becherovka. The Diana lower station near Pupp provides a verified map anchor for this part of town; it does not make a hill ride part of the excursion ticket.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

06

Keep a flexible alternative and pack for the actual route

If no suitable underground session is available, spend the time comparing the Market and Mill colonnades and looking along the river instead. Bring shoes with reliable grip, a small bag and an adjustable layer, with rain protection for the streets between stops. Do not pack for swimming unless you have independently arranged a pool or spa visit. Separate purchases and access checks make the day easier to change when an excursion, meal service or onward journey needs a different time.
