Český Krumlov Castle tickets: tower, museum or guided rooms?

Choose a Castle visit by what you want to see: self-guided collections and a tower climb, Renaissance rooms or a separately reserved theatre. Check each route’s season and admission.

01

Start with the kind of visit you want

The Castle is a complex of courtyards, rooms, exhibitions and outdoor spaces. Choose the experience first: a flexible museum visit, a guided sequence of historical rooms or the Baroque Theatre’s stage history. This avoids buying an admission because it sounds like an all-purpose Castle ticket. The courtyards can orient you before a paid visit, but an exterior walk does not reveal the interiors. Check the current route descriptions and date-specific sessions before building a timetable around them.

02

The museum and tower are one ticket choice

The self-guided Castle Museum introduces objects connected with the families who owned the estate; its tower adds the elevated view if the climb suits you. Official visitor information says the tower is not a separate route and is visited with the museum ticket. The gallery requires 162 steps, so ask about access if stairs are a concern. You can focus on the collections without treating a climb as compulsory, and the town offers river-level views for a gentler alternative.

03

Route I and Route II tell different stories

Route I concentrates on Renaissance and Baroque interiors, including the Chapel of Saint George and Masquerade Hall. Route II turns to the Schwarzenberg family and nineteenth-century rooms, with connecting Cloak Bridge corridors. On14October2026, Route II has no published sessions and is outside its normal May–September season. Do not substitute a walk across the exterior bridge for entry to its upper corridors. Choose an available Route I session or the museum as the practical indoor alternative.

04

The theatre needs its own reservation

The Baroque Theatre is a separate guided visit with preserved stage machinery, scenery and other theatrical equipment. Its operator requires a reservation; language, capacity and performance-related changes need checking for your exact day. A guided city walk may pass the Castle courtyards without entering the theatre or apartments. Read the selected option and admission exclusions carefully. Paying for commentary around the town does not establish that any of the Castle’s timed interiors have been reserved for you.

05

Use the correct courtyard and leave time to eat

Official visitor guidance places Routes I and II at the third courtyard, the museum and tower at the second, and theatre tours at the fifth. They are useful distinctions when you are climbing through a large complex. Leave a comfortable margin for reaching the meeting point. Before or after the Castle, Masná 130 in the old town provides a coffee-and-cake stop; seasonal morning brunch is another possibility only when its current service fits your date and tour time.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

06

Check the season and make the climb optional

The operator publishes route-specific autumn and winter calendars. Museum and tower opening should not be read as year-round daily access to every room, and the garden has its own season. Packtricia records these limitations for future checks, but readers should verify the Castle before travel. Take shoes with grip, a small bag and a removable layer; ask about storage and your specific access needs. A useful visit can combine a chosen exhibition with courtyards and a river view without requiring every climb.
