Cloak Bridge and the Castle Garden: a seasonal Český Krumlov walk

Walk through the Castle courtyards towards Cloak Bridge and extend to the garden only when its season and weather allow. Separate free outdoor access from reserved rooms and theatre tours.

01

Plan for the climb through the courtyards

Approach the Castle from Latrán and continue through the sequence of courtyards only as far as your energy and the conditions suit. The route gains height, so it is more demanding than a short distance on the town map suggests. Take water, shoes with grip and time for pauses. You do not need to book every interior along the way to enjoy the architecture. Ask about an appropriate alternative if slopes, steps or uneven surfaces are difficult for your group.

02

Understand what Cloak Bridge connects

Cloak Bridge links the fourth and fifth courtyards across the deep gap in the Castle complex. Look at the supporting structure and the town beyond before continuing uphill. Its enclosed upper corridors are different from the exterior crossing and viewpoints: those passageways form part of the nineteenth-century interior route. As reviewed on 14 October 2026, that Route II has no scheduled sessions and is outside its normal season. Enjoy the available exterior rather than making entry to the corridors a required stop.

03

The garden is a seasonal extension

The Baroque Castle Garden lies beyond the fifth courtyard, on the hill southwest of the Castle buildings. Its terraces, cascade fountain and upper garden give this part of the outing a different character from the enclosed courtyards. The operator publishes an April–October season and an earlier October closing time. Check the actual date and gate arrangements before continuing, especially late in the day. Outside the season, return from the available Castle exterior and enjoy a river view in town instead.

04

Bellaria and the theatre are separate choices

Seeing Bellaria in the garden does not mean the summer house is open for a casual interior visit. Its tours appear only on scheduled dates; the current Castle calendar lists no sessions at this review. The Baroque Theatre is another distinct guided booking, and a garden walk does not include its stage machinery or scenery. If either interior interests you, reserve the specific available option and language. Otherwise let the outdoor route stand on its own without implying that a closed room has been visited.

05

Save a central food stop for the return

Descend towards the old town before adding a meal rather than counting on an unverified refreshment stand near the garden. Masná 130 offers coffee and cakes in the centre, with seasonal morning brunch if your actual schedule fits. That gives the return a named purpose and a chance to rest after the climb. Carry water for the outdoor portion itself. Check café service on the day, particularly if a late garden visit brings you back after the usual food window.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

06

A shorter and a wet-weather version

For a shorter walk, stop after the courtyards and an available Castle viewpoint, then return to the river instead of continuing to the garden. In steady rain or icy weather, favour a confirmed museum visit and avoid treating the uphill extension as essential. Packtricia records garden, Bellaria and Route II limitations for rechecking; readers should still check the Castle before travelling. Bring an adjustable layer and a hooded rain jacket, and leave enough daylight for a comfortable descent and onward journey.
