Farol da Barra and the coastal promenade of Salvador viewed from above
Brazil

Salvador

Warm weather lasts throughout the year. Autumn and early winter are generally wetter, while summer still needs rain protection. Coastal sun, wind and humid air affect longer walks. Monthly values are calculated from NASA POWER MERRA-2 gridded daily data for 1991–2020 at the city coordinates. They represent a regional model cell, not a city weather station. Street shade, coastal exposure, elevation and urban warmth can differ. Climate averages do not predict an individual trip.

Summers are hot and very dry; winters can bring frost, snow and slippery paving. Spring has more showers, while early autumn usually offers a comfortable balance for open squares and mausoleum visits. Check the forecast for heatwaves or cold spells before packing.

San Francisco

Carry removable warmth and a windproof layer throughout the year. The airport’s 1991–2020 normals offer a seasonal baseline, but ocean-facing neighbourhoods, fog and exposed boat decks can feel cooler than this station south of the city.

San José

San José’s elevated Central Valley setting brings mild days and cooler evenings throughout the year. January to March usually offers the driest city-walking weather; April and December are transition options. May to November needs more rain protection, especially September and October. Keep outdoor walks flexible and save a museum for a wet afternoon.

Southern summers are warmer and wetter, while June–August brings cooler mornings and evenings. Rain can interrupt walking in any season.

Sarandë

Sarandë-area ERA5 reanalysis for 1991–2020 indicates hot, relatively dry summers and cooler, wetter winters. These gridded estimates are not station normals or forecasts. Exposed castle viewpoints, shaded archaeological paths and breezy waterfront meals need different layers; sea activities depend on actual weather and operator conditions.

The little things worth knowing

Historic brick façade along an Aalborg street

A first weekend in Aalborg

Give Aalborg one waterfront-and-city day, then choose art or archaeology for the second. That keeps the fjord crossing and museum openings from becoming last-minute surprises.

Aalborg Tower among trees at sunset

Aalborg: Kunsten, Kildeparken and a tower choice

Choose Kunsten for art and Alvar Aalto’s architecture, with a park pause on the approach. Aalborg Tower is a separate seasonal viewpoint, so check it before making the climb the purpose of your day.

A serene sunset over Aalborg harbor with silhouetted sailing ships against a vibrant sky.

Aalborg: Lindholm Høje as a separate half-day

Lindholm Høje lies across the fjord from central Aalborg. Give its stone settings and museum a separate half-day, with the indoor opening calendar checked before you travel.

Aalborg: the older centre and a named pub stop

Use Aalborg’s old streets for a compact walk between the centre and fjord. A specific pub stop can make a useful finish, but the architecture and public streets remain the route’s main purpose.

Industrial waterfront and silos reflected in Aalborg’s Limfjord

Aalborg: Utzon Center and the Limfjord waterfront

Aalborg’s waterfront lets you compare a working fjord city with newer cultural buildings. Use the Utzon Center as the main interior, then keep the outdoor route flexible in wind.
