Rows of books displayed among the former bank’s metal fittings at BookXcess Kong Heng in Ipoh.

BookXcess Kong Heng: books inside an old Ipoh bank

Make the former bank at Kong Heng a focused indoor stop: browse the book-lined vault fittings, look at the reused building and pair it with the nearby square rather than a long cross-city itinerary.

Colourful umbrellas and red lanterns suspended above Ipoh’s Market Lane.

Concubine Lane and Market Lane: a short Ipoh walk

Take a compact Old Town loop through two different lanes, Kong Heng’s brick courtyards and a coffee stop. Leave time to look above the souvenir stalls and keep the route short in heavy heat.

Black Chinese calligraphy painted on the limestone rock at Perak Tong cave temple in Ipoh.

Perak Tong: cave murals and an optional hill climb

Go to Perak Tong for the meeting of limestone, calligraphy and painted temple walls. Decide on the upper stairs after seeing conditions; the lower cave deserves time even without the viewpoint.

Dynjandi’s broad cascade flowing down the stepped rock face

Dynjandi from Ísafjörður: the road trip, lower paths and upper cascade

Plan Dynjandi as a separate outing, with clear path choices, current road checks and the right distinction between a waterfall trip and added extras.

Snow-striped cliffs and the mountain cirque above the Ísafjörður fjord setting

A first weekend in Ísafjörður: timber streets, culture and a fjord outing

Give Ísafjörður two adaptable days, with local streets and culture before one separately planned waterfall or seasonal island outing.

Vigur Island’s low shoreline, colourful farm buildings and windmill in Ísafjarðardjúp

Vigur from Ísafjörður: landing visits, heritage and the real bird season

Choose an authorised seasonal Vigur landing for heritage and birdlife, with clear distinctions between island access, a passing cruise and a guaranteed sighting.

Carved capitals on the colonnade of Smyrna’s Agora against a blue İzmir sky.

İzmir Agora: reading Smyrna’s columns and vaults

The Agora gives central İzmir a visible Roman layer, close enough to combine with Kemeraltı but worth its own unhurried visit. Follow the permitted route and look at how the courtyard, colonnades and lower structures fit together.

The Clock Tower and Konak Square at the waterfront entrance to İzmir’s market district.

Kemeraltı from Konak: the han, shop lanes and a şambali stop

Walk into Kemeraltı from Konak Square with a few clear anchors: Hisarönü, Kızlarağası Hanı and a small dessert stop. This is a market outing with room to browse, rather than a race through every historic building.

Walkers and anglers beside İzmir’s gulf on the wave-patterned waterfront pavement.

An İzmir Kordon walk: Pasaport, Gündoğdu and Alsancak

Follow the southern shore from Pasaport toward Gündoğdu Square and Alsancak, with a bakery break before or after. The pleasure is in the changing waterfront, not in ticking off a long list of indoor sights.

A passenger ferry approaches İzmir’s waterfront with the city skyline behind it.

Across İzmir’s gulf: a public ferry to Karşıyaka

Use an ordinary İZDENİZ sailing for a change of perspective and an outing on the north shore. Start with Karşıyaka’s pier and shopping street, adding Bostanlı only when the timetable, weather and your energy make it worthwhile.
