A first weekend in Marrakech: medina courtyards and a garden morning

Split a first Marrakech weekend between the old city and a booked garden visit. This two-day plan leaves room for meals and rest instead of stacking every palace, museum and excursion into the same afternoon.

01

Day one morning: the northern medina

Start at Ben Youssef Medersa with its decorated courtyard and carved wood. Buy the monument admission separately from any guided walk, and use the visitor route rather than expecting access to the neighbouring mosque. Continue towards Rahba Kedima through the souk lanes, keeping your phone tucked away between navigation checks.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

For a longer guided medina outing, Compare the Ben Youssef, Secret Garden and medina tour. This walk combines Ben Youssef Madrasa, the Secret Garden and souks, replacing the independent morning rather than supplementing it. Monument entry tickets are extra despite the queue assistance. Check English or French departures and your meeting point; riad pickup is limited to the private option within the medina.

02

Day one lunch: pause above Rahba Kedima

We recommend Café des Épices for a practical meal break on the spice square: its menu includes a Moroccan breakfast with flatbreads and amlou as well as simple lunch options. Choose a shaded table when the terrace is hot; a seat overlooking the square is a reason to pause, not a promise of quiet or immediate availability.

03

Day one evening: Koutoubia and the square

After a rest, walk to the public space around Koutoubia Mosque for the minaret view, then continue towards Jemaa el-Fnaa. The mosque is an active place of worship: this plan uses exterior views. Enjoy the changing square at your own pace, agree any purchase or photo price in advance and keep an easy route back to your accommodation.

04

Day two morning: a booked garden visit

Reserve Jardin Majorelle through the garden’s official ticket portal before setting out. Check the exact time slot and which museums the chosen ticket includes; the garden, Berber arts museum and Yves Saint Laurent museum are distinct visits. Allow time to reach the entrance rather than adding a fixed cross-city walking time to the plan.

05

Day two afternoon: choose Bahia or a slower finish

If you still want another monument, make Bahia Palace your afternoon focus and follow the rooms and courtyards open on the day. Otherwise keep the afternoon for a meal and rest. In intense heat, shorten the outdoor plan; comfortable shoes, drinking water and a sun hat matter more than completing every stop.

Bahia Palace: courtyards, ceilings and a southern medina outing

Make Bahia Palace the focus of a southern medina outing. Look at its courtyard proportions and decorated ceilings, then leave time for the neighbourhood rather than rushing north to another major monument.

Ben Youssef and Rahba Kedima: a northern medina walk

Use Ben Youssef’s courtyard as the main visit, then slow down around Rahba Kedima for a meal and a look at the shops. This walk keeps the northern medina together without adding a distant garden or southern palace.

Vibrant Majorelle Blue house surrounded by lush exotic plants and cacti under a clear sky.

Jardin Majorelle: book the right ticket and enjoy the garden

Plan Jardin Majorelle as a reserved garden visit, with time to look at its blue architecture and planting. Choose any museum visits deliberately and keep the rest of the day flexible instead of treating a garden ticket as an all-city pass.

Koutoubia to Jemaa el-Fnaa: a short exterior walk

Use the Koutoubia minaret as an easy landmark for a short Marrakech outing. Pair the public gardens and exterior views with Jemaa el-Fnaa, leaving mosque interiors and long shopping loops outside the plan.

A first weekend in Casablanca: mosque, façades and Habous

Spend one day between the mosque and the old medina, then explore downtown and Habous on a second day. This plan leaves room for meals, weather changes and the journeys between neighbourhoods.

Beautiful sunset view over Fes, Morocco with a sprawling cityscape and hills in the background.

A first weekend in Fès: two manageable medina days

Give Fès two different days: one around Bab Boujloud and Bou Inania, another deeper in the craft quarters. A museum, a proper lunch and optional stops make this a usable weekend rather than a race through the medina.
