A first look at Yangon

Travel advice reviewed on 24 October 2026: Australia advises against all travel to Myanmar, and Canada advises avoiding all travel. Yangon is affected by unpredictable security incidents and movement restrictions. These outing ideas are conditional on current advice and local access; postpone leisure travel while warnings apply. If already there, follow your embassy and accommodation’s guidance, curfews and local restrictions. When conditions permit, keep Shwedagon and Kandawgyi as one northern outing, and give downtown’s Pansodan and Strand streets a separate daylight visit. Rangoon Tea House’s Golden Valley branch is a separate Bahan meal stop, rather than the old downtown address still shown in some guides.

Choosing a season

The best-season badge suggests months for general sightseeing, using the typical daytime temperatures and rainfall in our monthly guides. Beach holidays, festivals, winter sports and northern lights trips may suit different dates.

Climate methodology

Rounded mean daily minimum and maximum temperatures from WMO WWIS / Myanmar Department of Meteorology and Hydrology Yangon climate, 1961–1990. The daytime band spans the rounded mean minimum to maximum, and the nighttime band brackets the mean minimum. These older station normals describe seasonal patterns, not forecasts or current security or visitor access. JMA Yangon monthly normals corroborate the strongly seasonal monsoon. Rain expectations are concise seasonal descriptions; no wet-day threshold is assumed.

Transport guide

Getting around Yangon

Use an accommodation-arranged car for essential transfers when communications or restrictions disrupt normal travel. Grab’s Myanmar site confirms Yangon taxi operations and provides official app downloads: enter pickup and destination, review the displayed fare, verify the matched vehicle and share the trip. Live driver supply and connectivity can change; keep kyat and a known-driver fallback. A booking is not evidence that the route is permitted or safe. Easy YBS is an independent Android planner for Yangon bus routes and stops, not the transport authority or a ticket wallet. Confirm the current route, fare and payment or card activation with the operator or your accommodation before boarding; a saved route does not buy a ticket. Public transport safety and security warnings apply, and no leisure circular-train excursion is assumed in this plan.

Check the operator’s current service notices and ticket instructions before travelling.
