A first look at Quepos

Start in Quepos with the seafront boardwalk and Marina Pez Vela, where boats and waterside tables give you an easy first afternoon. Continue to Parque Nahomi for views over a small cove if the weather allows. Reserve a separate morning for Manuel Antonio National Park: walk slowly through the forest toward Manuel Antonio beach, watching the canopy rather than rushing between promised wildlife sightings. Espadilla Norte is the public beach outside the park; Espadilla Sur is inside the ticketed area, so they are different outings. Take the local bus or a taxi along the steep hill road instead of assuming the whole route is an easy walk. Runaway Grill at the marina makes a practical meal stop before returning to your accommodation. Keep an optional coast cruise on a separate day, with its own meeting point and weather decision.

Choosing a season

The best-season badge suggests months for general sightseeing, using the typical daytime temperatures and rainfall in our monthly guides. Beach holidays, festivals, winter sports and northern lights trips may suit different dates.

Climate methodology

Indicative October packing bands extend approximately 2°C either side of rounded Celsius conversions of the Manuel Antonio regional average high and low in Costa Rica Expeditions’ chart. The chart attributes data to Costa Rica’s national weather service but provides no station or normal period, so these are approximate coastal planning ranges, not verified station normals or a forecast. Its rainfall pattern supports generally less rain in January–March and wetter conditions in May–November. Quepos and the nearby Manuel Antonio coast share this regional reference; check the forecast for your actual dates.

Transport guide

Getting around Quepos

Use the local bus between Quepos bus station and Manuel Antonio for the hill road and public beach, then walk the signed approach to the national park entrance. Confirm the return stop and latest departure locally before leaving town; bring colones for an on-board fare. The Bus in Costa Rica provides a mobile route guide naming Transportes Herosuma and on-board payment, but independent sources disagree on precise fares and frequency, so no fixed timetable is promised here. No native local-bus operator app or digital activation procedure has been confirmed. For intercity journeys, TRACOPA’s official mobile website links to the Passer app and lists its Quepos and Manuel Antonio routes. Passer sells supported TRACOPA departures and adds a service charge; it is not a local-bus pass. Save the purchased ticket and follow its boarding instructions. Check the exact hotel stop or arrange a taxi separately: side roads and steep hills can turn a short map distance into an awkward walk.

Check the operator’s current service notices and ticket instructions before travelling.
