The Royal Castle in Warsaw above Castle Square
Warsaw · First visit

A first Warsaw weekend: Old Town, royal rooms and a park outing

Give the Old Town and one Castle collection a day, then choose Łazienki for a separate garden outing. This plan leaves time for meals, transfers and actual visitor restrictions.

01

Day one morning: Castle Square to the Old Town

Begin at Castle Square with Sigismund’s Column and the Royal Castle façade as orientation points. Continue along Świętojańska to the Old Town Market Square and its Mermaid monument, then add the Barbican and nearby walls if you want a longer loop. The reconstruction after wartime destruction is part of the place’s story, rather than something to overlook. Leave church entry optional and keep the route on available public streets when services or events change access.

For a guided or bookable alternative, consider this Warsaw Old Town walking tour if you want a guided alternative. Confirm its current route, language, meeting point and date before booking; do not assume Royal Castle interior admission is included.

02

Day one afternoon: choose a Castle collection

Return to the Castle for the interior route that fits your interests. Royal Apartments focus on the king’s state and private rooms; the Museum Route has a different collection emphasis. A Wednesday free visit has a reduced route and limited tickets collected on the day, not the full selection of permanent rooms. Mondays normally close the interiors. Choose a current admission rather than treating a city walking tour or garden visit as an automatic ticket to the royal rooms.

03

Give lunch a clear place in the route

For a meal break after the Castle or before a Royal Route extension, walk towards Café Bristol at Krakowskie Przedmieście 42/44. Its current menu includes smoked-curd-cheese pierogi with potatoes, Brussels sprouts and bacon, plus mushroom tagliatelle. Check current ingredients and service rather than calling the pierogi vegetarian. Breakfast is a separate morning menu, so an afternoon arrival should not depend on eggs Benedict being served. Leave time to enjoy the stop before planning another admission.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

04

Day two: make Łazienki a separate outing

Use the current city journey planner for the transfer to Łazienki rather than treating it as the next street after the Old Town. Start with the Chopin Monument and garden paths, then choose the Palace on the Isle exterior as a clear architectural anchor. Garden access and palace entry are separate. If an indoor visit matters, confirm the specific building’s actual opening window before travelling; a general park description does not guarantee that every room or pavilion is available.

05

Keep the October restrictions in the plan

The operator’s calendar, reviewed on 14 October 2026, lists Palace on the Isle closures on 14 October 10:00–12:00 and17 October 11:00–14:00, plus Ballroom restrictions on 24 October 12:00–15:00 and27 October from 12:00. Use the garden and a separately confirmed alternative building during those affected periods. Packtricia will recheck these notices, while readers should check the museum before travelling. Do not infer that a closure has ended simply because a date in an old copy has passed.

06

A shorter or wetter version still works

For a shorter weekend, keep the Old Town and one chosen interior, with the central Royal Route as your second-day walk. In persistent rain, shorten park exposure and favour a confirmed Castle visit on an open day. Wear shoes with grip, carry a rain shell and add a layer for slow outdoor stops. Avoid placing consecutive timed visits across districts without leaving travel and meal time. Warsaw is easier to enjoy when the itinerary can respond to the actual day.
