The Last Supper in Milan: book first, then plan the walk

Let a confirmed Last Supper reservation shape this outing. Santa Maria delle Grazie gives the painting its setting, but a church visit and entry to the refectory are different things.

01

Begin with the official booking rules

The Last Supper Museum requires a reservation. Its official information states that individual online and call-centre tickets are named and those names cannot subsequently be changed. Check the current release calendar and identity instructions before arranging the rest of the day.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

02

Protect the short viewing time

The official visit inside lasts fifteen minutes for conservation reasons. Arrive for the required check-in rather than timing your metro arrival to the viewing slot. Keep your phone and bag arrangements simple so the preparation does not eat into your attention to the painting.

03

Look at the other wall too

Use the limited viewing time to notice the room as a whole, then the painting’s grouping and gestures. The visit is about sustained looking, not collecting photographs of every detail. Follow the museum’s current rules on devices, bags and behaviour rather than advice from an old tour review.

04

Keep the church separate

The brick church and dome of Santa Maria delle Grazie are worth looking at from outside even without a refectory ticket. Interior church access depends on worship and visitor arrangements. Seeing the church does not mean that the Last Supper is visible from it.

05

Choose a modest continuation

After the booked visit, walk towards the Sforza Castle if the weather and energy suit, or use ATM transport for a shorter return. Do not add another tightly timed reservation immediately afterwards. If the painting is sold out, choose Brera’s art collection on an operating day and retain the church exterior as a separate stop.

Check before you go

Opening arrangements and visitor rules can change. Check the official information before your trip.

A first weekend in Milan

Choose one main booking each day, then connect Milan’s streets, food stops and canals around it. A confirmed Last Supper slot can replace part of this plan rather than becoming an extra rushed stop.

Milan Duomo: roof, lift, stairs and museum choices

Decide which part of the Duomo you want to visit before choosing a ticket. Roof access, cathedral admission and a museum visit offer different experiences, and the lift does not remove every stair.

Sforza Castle tower beyond its approach square in Milan

Milan: Sforza Castle, Brera and one art collection

Pair the castle’s public setting with one collection, then explore Brera’s streets. Choosing a clear art interest leaves more time to look than trying to do every museum on the same walk.

Milan’s canals: Darsena and a shorter Naviglio Grande walk

Use the Darsena basin as an orientation point, then choose one canal bank to explore. A slow evening walk works without a boat booking or a promise of a particular aperitivo deal.

10 things people forget when visiting Rome

It is easy to remember the Colosseum and forget the charging cable. These ten reminders cover the practical things that make a Rome visit easier, from comfortable shoes to what you carry on a sightseeing day.

A first weekend in Bologna

Keep the first day around the civic squares and food shops, then choose San Luca or a slower museum day. The closed Asinelli climb should not determine whether the weekend feels complete.
