Kepulauan Seribu from Jakarta: choose an island and plan the boat day

Treat the Thousand Islands as a separate sea journey: choose a public ferry island or a resort service, then verify the boat and weather.

01

Choose the island before choosing the boat

The inhabited islands are not one interchangeable beach stop. Pulau Pramuka, Pulau Pari and Pulau Tidung appear on public routes from Kali Adem/Muara Angke; resort islands use separate operator boats and schedules. Pick one destination and check what is open there.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

02

Book the official public boat route

Jakarta’s Transportation Agency says its JaketBoat service lists schedules, routes and online tickets for government-operated boats from Kali Adem, Muara Angke. Check the available sailing and return route in that official system, and arrive with time for boarding procedures. An island ferry ticket is not a city bus or MRT ticket.

03

Keep the day flexible around sea conditions

The island journey can take substantially longer than a city transfer and service may be suspended for weather. Check the operator and port notices shortly before departure; do not rely on a third-party tour page as proof that a boat is running. If the official ferry is suspended, reschedule rather than attempting an improvised crossing.

04

Plan one island, not a rushed island-hopping list

For a first trip, make one island your anchor and ask the local host which shoreline, conservation activity or village walk is currently open to visitors. Snorkelling, rented boats and park access may need separate arrangements. Bring sun protection, water, cash and a dry phone pouch, and agree the return departure before leaving the pier.

05

An alternative if you have only one city day

If the sea trip does not fit your dates, stay on the mainland and visit Kota Tua or Monas instead. The islands are optional and should not be treated as a required Jakarta sightseeing stop; book accommodation if the chosen public timetable does not provide a workable same-day return.
