Ornate upper floors of the Martinelli Building in central São Paulo
São Paulo · Architecture and booking choices

Martinelli, Farol and choosing a downtown view

Central São Paulo offers two very different skyline visits: Martinelli’s guided heritage route and Farol Santander’s ticketed cultural building. Book one main view, look at the other tower from street level and leave time to understand the buildings around them.

01

Start with the street-level contrast

Use Edifício Martinelli as the first anchor in the São Bento area. Look upward at the ornate upper storeys and compare their detailing with the straighter Art Deco tower of Farol Santander. The street-level architecture remains a useful stop even if you have not secured a terrace place.

Mobile data for your trip. Check what your current plan includes for roaming. If you need another option for maps, messages and booking details, compare NXTL eSIM coverage and rates. Check that your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked, and check coverage for every stop. Download important maps and confirmations for offline use too.

02

Check the actual Martinelli release

The operator’s guided-visits page links current ticket releases, while an older information page still labels a previous visit programme ended. The municipal tourism service has announced resumed guided visits. At our 10 October 2026 review, these pages did not establish a guaranteed walk-in opening for your travel day. Use the live calendar and confirmation for the date, meeting point and included spaces; do not rely on an old free-entry timetable or assume a private event is a public visit. Packtricia will recheck visitor arrangements, and readers should always check before travelling.

03

Use Farol as the booked alternative

If Martinelli has no suitable confirmed session, consider Farol Santander and check its official ticket page. The visitor offering includes the viewing floor and exhibitions; dining venues and other experiences have their own arrangements. Choose the ticket that actually covers your intended visit. A café booking is not proof of admission to every exhibition or activity.

04

Read the view instead of collecting photographs

From an available viewing floor, pick out the surrounding rooflines and the relationship between the towers and the street grid. Save a street-level look at the second building for afterwards. This keeps the outing useful even when weather reduces distant visibility; do not buy two viewpoint visits simply because both appear on a highlights list.

05

Finish the centre in daylight

Use São Bento station and the nearby central streets for the onward journey, checking the current metro route before departing. Keep the return journey separate from a promised terrace visit: bookings can change and a street walk should still work without it. For an indoor-heavy alternative, give Farol’s current exhibitions more time rather than extending the walk through an unfamiliar district after dark.

São Paulo Cathedral’s twin green spires between downtown buildings

A first weekend in São Paulo

Give Saturday to art around Luz and Sunday to Paulista. This weekend keeps one main museum per day, includes an actual lunch choice and offers Ibirapuera or a guided city introduction when you would rather change the pace.

Ibirapuera Obelisk and surrounding trees with São Paulo in the background

Ibirapuera: lakes, the Marquise and Afro Brasil

Give Ibirapuera a morning for outdoor paths and one museum, rather than trying to enter every cultural venue. The lakes, Niemeyer’s covered Marquise and Museu Afro Brasil Emanoel Araujo offer three different reasons to spend time here.

The decorated façade of São Paulo’s Municipal Theatre

Municipal Theatre, the Viaduto do Chá and a pernil stop

Use the Municipal Theatre as the main cultural stop, the Viaduto do Chá for the surrounding cityscape and Estadão for a specific lunch. The interior tour needs its own booking; the outdoor route still makes sense when you only have time for the façade.

MASP’s red concrete support and suspended glass galleries on Avenida Paulista

Paulista, MASP and a proper museum lunch

Build a Paulista day around MASP rather than collecting every cultural building on the avenue. Look at the red-supported museum from the street, spend time with the art, then make lunch part of the outing at A Baianeira in the newer neighbouring building.

Florianópolis waterfront and the modern bridges connecting island and mainland

A first weekend in Florianópolis

Spend one day in the historic centre and another around Barra da Lagoa. Two well-chosen districts leave room for meals, museums and island traffic, without pretending you can see every beach in a weekend.

Historic buildings around Marco Zero seen across the Recife waterfront

A first weekend in Recife

Use the first day for Recife Antigo and the second for a deliberate art outing in Várzea. The harbour sculpture park is an optional crossing, not a substitute for either inland Brennand collection.
